The Evolution
|
|
A Piece Of My HeArt Project has evolved, since those first days Violet began sharing her necklaces, growing into a worldwide educational art project. It is now a project with over a thousand people all contributing in their own unique way to create and reveal the big picture to others. The evolution began, the day of the 9/11 tragedy in New York. Violet’s mother worked at the World Trade Center, during the time of the tragedy. She left work only twenty minutes before the first plane hit. And, though she lived thousands of miles from New York, the event changed Violet’s life and the project forever. Realizing that, even thousands of miles away from the tragedy, she was connected to it and affected by it, Violet felt an even greater need to remind people that we are all connected and that even the smallest of people and things matters and that it didn’t just matter to the people near and dear to you, it mattered to people thousands of miles away, as well. She had shown people how we are directly connected but it was time to reveal how we were all indirectly connected. To do this, she began selling her necklaces, in order to donate to several 9/11 charities, showing how one small act of kindness could affect people across an entire country. Then, in December of 2004, David suggested to Violet, since she is an artist, she should create her own puzzle pieces, taking the project a step further, transforming them and the project into a work of art. David suggested that she use all of her talents to create the ultimate art project. That is when Violet decided to create one of the world’s largest/longest art puzzle projects, to reveal on a larger scale how we are all connected. She began asking other artists to work on the canvas with her, to create the pieces that would eventually connect together to create the big picture. The word spread and in less than a month over a thousand people were asking how they could participate in A Piece Of My HeArt Project. The project then evolved, once again. At first, Violet was going make smaller pieces from each canvas section to give away and sell for charity, just as she had done with the necklaces. But, as the project evolved so did Violet’s ideas about the project, she realized that she could do greater good by keeping the original pieces together to create one massive educational and inspirational tool to connect as many people from all over the world from many walks of life as possible. This way, she could also show how things in life evolve, as the big picture evolves. By keeping the pieces together, even more can be revealed about how the big picture changes through each individual person’s contribution. Violet continues to create an ever changing, constantly evolving, work of art that reveals some of the most important lessons in life.
