Lesson Three

As we have mentioned, there are many choices in art and in life. Your choices are your building blocks. Your focus is the foundation but all of your other choices help you create your art and your world according to that focus. Choices are important. Your choices are what sets you apart from and also what connects you to others.

The choices in art are called the elements and principles of art. They consist of subject matter, point, line, shape/form, texture, proportion, scale, color/hue, value, contrast, proportion, space, balance, rhythm/movement/direction, depth, variety, and pattern. Just as in life, your choices in art are abundant.

Your choices reveal to others what your art and what your life is about. The more you choose, in life and in art, the more meaning and purpose you add to them. The less you choose, the less meaning and purpose you give to both your art and to your life. When you allow others to make those choices for you, or when you don’t make those choices consciously, you reveal less about who you really are through lack of meaning and purpose.

A Piece Of My HeArt Project artists add to the big picture their choices in art and in life, the theme being a piece of their heart. Choices in life are much like the choices in art. Your choices should come from the mind, body and spirit working together to create what best represents who you are.
